Last week, a large group of folks that love the San Juan River, converged on the San Juan in step one of bringing the San Juan back to national prominence. Yes, there is a lot to do, but this was a symbolic "Hell Yes" that we are moving in the right direction. Approximately 20 guides, several people from the Game and Fish Department, a member of the Game and Fish Commission, and several folks that just wanted to help, showed up at the Texas Hole to lend a hand. Each boat was set up with 2 large, clean, trash cans and two oars. Each trash can was filled with water and 10-20 fish. All the fish were between 13 and 20 inches long. Many of the guides commented that the fish were in fantastic shape, all fins were fully developed, and the fish were ready to join their buddies in the river. Each boat took off with a designated area to put the fish. Prominent guide, Bubba Smith kind of spearheaded the operation, with lots of help from the Game and Fish officers who were generous enough to supply their time and knowledge. Each boat rowed downstream, let their fish loose, rowed to the take out, only to drive back, unload their boat again, and do it one more time. We would like to thank everyone that was present for this operation. We are hoping to do this several times a year in conjunction with the normal stockings that will take place. Thanks to Jim McClintic from the Game and Fish Commission, Marc Wethington and several other G&F officers (sorry, do not know names), all the guides, and several friends who all gave a tremendous amount of time and effort to make this initial stocking a rousing success.
